A new urban district is taking shape on the site of the former freight station in Heidelberg: Bahnstadt, one of the world's largest passive house neighborhoods. This area offers a mix of residential and commercial spaces, as well as leisure and cultural facilities. All buildings in Bahnstadt are constructed to passive house standards to fulfill the goal of a zero-emission district. Among them is the ATLANTIC Hotel Heidelberg, the most striking building in this new district, standing at 50 meters tall. Vescom wallcovering and upholstery fabrics are featured in almost all areas of the hotel.

The new ATLANTIC Hotel Heidelberg is the world's first high-rise hotel built to passive house standards. It features 310 rooms and suites, eight event spaces, a grand ballroom, and a fitness area with a sauna. The hotel’s dining options include the large 15 High restaurant with a rooftop bar and the Deli Lounge on the ground floor. Throughout the hotel, accent colors such as red and green reference Heidelberg’s surroundings—from the Bergstraße’s renowned vineyards to the red sandstone of the Neckar-Odenwald region.

Sustainability, resource conservation, and circularity were key considerations in the planning of the hotel’s interior. The designers prioritized high-quality, comfortable furnishings that ensure long-term appeal. Many wall surfaces and a large portion of the upholstered furniture in the public areas are finished with Vescom wallcovering and upholstery fabrics. The elegant wallcovering is highly durable, easy to clean, and can be disinfected when needed. The upholstery fabrics include designs made from recycled materials, woven at Vescom’s mill in Germany. These fabrics consist largely of flame-retardant polyester yarn derived from post-consumer PET bottles.
